Virtual Reality

Overview

Google offers a variety of products to experience and create virtual reality experiences for the classroom.

GUHSD Teachers can:

  • guide students through a pre-made virtual reality lessons using Google Expeditions

  • create virtual reality experiences with or for their students with Google VR Tour Creator.

To support these opportunities, GUHSD teachers can Check Out Virtual Reality Equipment to use with their students or to simply start experimenting.

Equipment Includes:

  • iPad (for teacher)

  • iPods (for students)

  • VR Headsets (for students)

  • Theta 360 photo cameras (optional - for creating 360 photos)

EXPERIENCE Virtual Reality Content

Teachers can guide students through virtual reality lessons! A "Guide" (teacher) leads "participants" (students) through points of interest (POI) within a series of 360 image environments called an "expedition."

VR Expeditions contain a series of 360-degree images, scripted informational content and comprehension questions. Guide also has options to direct students to specific areas within an image and annotate the image. Content is available across all content areas. The Google Expeditions App will allow us to do this!

Making It Happen In Your Classroom

Process

  1. Identify your Lesson Objectives / Purpose

    • Refer to your content objectives

    • Check out the lesson samples (right) to get some ideas!

  2. Identify how you will use VR in your lesson:

      • Guide students through a VR experience using Google Expeditions VR content?

      • Have students create their own VR content using Google Tour Creator (see above)?

  3. Check VR Equipment Availability by browsing the VR Use Calendar (see below).

  4. Complete the Virtual Reality Equipment Checkout Form (see below).

    • A DLC will contact you to follow up.

  5. Create your VR-infused lesson!

  6. Implement your lesson with/without DLC in-class support.
