Google Chrome Extensions - What are they?

Google Chrome Extensions are applications that work with the Chrome browser to provide additional functionality.  Some are designed specifically for Google products and others help us to integrate with third party websites/services.  

Benefits for Teachers and Students

Google Chrome Extensions can make things a lot easier for teachers and students, through simplification, ease of access, and more.  Extensions can enhance the classroom experience for everyone!

Where/How do I get them?

You can get extensions from the Chrome Web Store’s Extensions Page

  • Teacher use: Just add the Extension from the Chrome Web Store by clicking “add to Chrome”

  • Student use:  Students cannot add their own Extensions.  If there is an Extension that you would like students to be able to access and install, please email Dan at:

Examples - This is just the tip of the iceberg!!

  • Clearly - cleans up blog posts, articles, and webpages making them easier to read

  • Google Dictionary - defines highlighted words on the web with the click of a button

  • Google Translate - highlight or right-click on a section of text and click the Translate icon to have the text translated into your language

  • URL Shortener - a simple click turns your long URL into a short URL or even a QR code!

  • One Tab - too many tabs open?  Clicking One Tab converts your tabs to a list.  You can restore the tabs one at a time, or you can restore all of them at once.  You can also save the tab list for later!

  • Snagit - take screenshots or screen recordings of anything up and running on your screen
